Professor Garavito’s research primarily focuses on criminal law and procedure, as well as developmental and cognitive psychology. He received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from Cornell University. His work involves empirical analysis of law and the application of psychological and neuroscientific methods and theory to legal contexts, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations (e.g., juveniles, the elderly, historically-oppressed group, etc.). His work appears in both law reviews and peer-reviewed scientific journals. His recent projects have focused on disparate outcomes in parole hearing outcomes and the tensions between Fourth Amendment protections and privacy in an era of big data collection.
